In addition to playing the villain in the upcoming Batgirl film, Brendan Fraser will be participating in a much more dramatic type of film as well. Specifically, Brendan Fraser has been cast as the titular subject of The Whale, a psychological drama that focuses on a 600-pound man named Charlie. Now we know when The Whale is scheduled to have its world premiere.


It was announced that The Whale will have its premiere at the 79th Venice Film Festival. The festival is scheduled to take place during September of this year. As such, those who are able to visit the event will be able to finally see The Whale and what stars Brendan Fraser and Sadie Sink have to offer the material.


As for some of the other films that will be premiering, it looks like fans can expected to see Joanna Hogg’s The Eternal Daughter starring Tilda Swinton as well as Ti West’s Pearl starring Mia Goth.

Fans have been eager to see Brendan Fraser’s performance in the film, which was said to include “a lot of make-up and prosthetics.” The overall narrative follows his character as he attempts to reconnect with his daughter, 17-year-old Ellie. The two became distant after Charlie decides to abandon his family in favor of his gay lover. His lover, however, passes away which sends Charlie into an eating binge.


The Whale was directed by Darren Aronofsky with a screenplay that was written by Samuel D. Hunter. The film was also based on Samuel D. Hunter’s play of the same name.


In addition to Brendan Fraser and Sadie Sink, who will be playing Charlie and Ellie respectively, the film also stars Hong Chau as Liz, Samantha Morton as Mary, Ty Simpkins as Thomas, and Sathya Sridharan.
